well well well round 2 it is.
after wiley dropped "Eediyat Skengman 1" and stormzy replied with "disappointed" fan's gave the edge to the south London mc in this grime clash.
me on the other hand, i felt it was just warning shots between the two. i need these two to take the gloves off and start looking for those ko moments.
these guys did not fail in my eyes with their follow ups.
wiley dropped "Eediyat Skengman 2"
going over the more energetic riddim by tezza called "bounce" wiley feels more in his element than the previous dub.
from the first stanza, that eskimo wiley is in full effect.
"Ask your mum where she knows me from Broski I'm the coldest don Where was you when you wrote this song? You was looking for a motive don I've done more for you than your dad has"
that last line is a nice gut punch.
his flow is full of energy with cheeky lines that had the timeline going mad.
"Dead, all informer fi dead You're caught up in a circle of bread If I see your mum down Croydon market I'm gonna rip that weave off her head, dead"
how this track is mixed and arranged, it feels more like a live grime\dancehall set. this song performed live would be a set killer.
commenting over his relationship woes
"Delightful, go beat your jaws on your tour but Michael, Maya's not yours anymore You're not on the dance floor anymore"
THESE ARE nice shots but i don't think wiley attacked this point well enough. it wasn't turned into a catchy bar and could of been a weak spot that could of been used more effectively.
one part of the song that has been ignored but is straight facts was
"I laid foundation for the keys you hold If you don't stop moving funny around us I'll change the locks, now your keys are old If it's urban, it's all mine, shut up"
no matter what you think about wiley, many artist wouldn't be here without his contributions.
you can see he still has love for the culture and him going toe to toe with stormzy seems like his way of showing he's on his level but wants to prove that he hasn't lost a step,
this was a solid dub AND PUT THE GODFATHER IN A GREAT POSITION FOR STORMZY TO REPLY.
dropping "still disappointed" soon after big mike up the levels also.
leaning off the family narrative at the start
"Aight, one more dub, then it's back to business (Yeah) I'm a real G, and your dad's a witness (Yeah) Boy'd your bro, then your sister begged it I told that little bitch, "Don't ask for pictures" (Sket) I do this ting for fitness Put them Cowie boys in rizzlas Fallouts at the next family functions The Cowies are gonna have an awkward Christmas"
which is a perfect lead up towards the main target on this dub
"So why you love to talk about mums so much? (So much) Where's yours? (Where's yours?) Let me just 'low it (Let me just 'low it) Let me just pause (Pause)"
a valid point that wiley has been criticised for and stormz flipped it on its head.
delivering a quotable that was pure gold
"You said, "Yo mum, we gotta leave the country" (Yeah) I never wanna hear you say, "Free the mandem" (Yeah) Let's go Cyprus and go free your mumzy"
with the way stormzy writes, he's not overly technical but he delivers lines that are memorable. in the same vein as skepta.
the style matching perfectly with the riddim. originally done by kano on the single "mic check 1-2" PRODUCED BY mikey j
SPITTING VENOM WHILE SOUNDING EFFORTLESS MAKES HIS LINES STING JUST ABIT MORE.
"She was tryna relax But her son got caught in a war (Caught in a war) One day there's dons at the door, then next day Heathrow Terminal 4"
THE LINES MAY NOT BE TRUE BUT GRIME CLASHES ARE A MIX BETWEEN SKILL AND DISRESPECT, POP OR NOT STORMZY CAME BACK TO THE VILLAGE AND DIDN'T FALL BACK.
SO WHO CAME OUT ON TOP?
MY ONE ISSUE WITH BOTH DUBS IS THAT SUBJECT CHOICES WERE REHASHED A LITTLE TOO MUCH. BOTH ATTACKing EACH OTHERS FAMILY MEMBERS WAS NICE AT THE BEGINNING BUT GOT REPETITIVE. BOTH CAME WITH THE RIGHT ENERGY BUT IT'S NOW DOWN TO WHO LEFT THE BEST IMPRESSION.
FOR NOW I'M GIVING IT TO STORMZY BY A SLIGT MARGIN. 1-0 BUT FOR THOSE THAT ARE SAYING WILEY GOT WASHED, YOU ARE EXTREMELY MISTAKEN. THIS WAS VERY CLOSE AND WITH REPORTS SAYING THIS IS THE FINIAL DUB OF THE WAR IT'S KINDA DISAPPOINTING.
BUT WAIT. THINGS JUST GOT EVEN MORE INTERESTING.
WILEY'S BROTHER CADELL HAS JUMPED INTO THE WAR FINALLY.
RELEASING "WORLD WAR 3" HE'S IGNITING THE FUED FROM 2015 AFTER BIG MIKE CALLED HIM OUT.
THE DUB IS TRULLY SOLID. I'LL SAY IT'S BETTER THAN THE FIRST DUBS RELEASED IN THIS WAR.
CADELL IS A UNDERRATED GRIME TALENT AND HE DESERVES A REPLY BECAUSE HE DIDN'T need to be mentioned in THIS BATTLE, but was made to be a punchline and that won't stand from him.
MY FAVOURITE LINE from the dub is
"Stormzy, suck your mum You don't crash G-check who? You was begging it, shush He just had Jorja Smith in his face Now he's tryna do drill songs like woosh"
YOU CAN HERE IN HIS VOICE CADELL IS HUNGRY AND WILL BE A WILD CARD IN THIS BATTLE, BUT IT'LL BE A PROPER TEST BECAUSE MANY SAY STORMZY WAS DUCKING HIM DURING THE START OF HIS COME UP.
"Why do you tell MC's stories? Make the next one interesting for me Speak on me but that man raps poorly"
FROM LINES LIKE THIS. CADELL VS STORMZY FEELS LIKE it SHOULD OF BEEN THE BATTLE. NOT WILEY.
I DON'T HAVE HIGH HOPE THAT CADELL WILL GET A REPLY BUT THIS DUB IS MORE DESERVING IN MY OPINION.
